SAALFELD, Germany&SUNNYVALE, Calif., Oct. 14, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) --
Intuitive Surgical and Trumpf Medical are now offering Integrated Table
Motion for theda Vinci
® Xi
® Surgical System in Europe. This first-of-its-kind product includes the
latest Intuitive Surgical robotic-assisted surgical system and Trumpf
Medical's advanced operating table, the TruSystem® 7000dV. The surgical
system and table have been seamlessly integrated to allow surgeons and
anesthesiologists - for the first time - to make a comprehensive range of
table adjustments easily and efficiently duringda Vinci

The ability to reposition the operating table - in real time - with the
surgical robotic arms docked addresses the need for operating room efficiency
and maximizes access, exposure and reach during a robotic-assisted surgical
procedure. This integrated functionality gives operating room (OR) staff the
ability to:

* Optimally position the table so that gravity exposes anatomy during
multi-quadrantda Vinci System procedures, such as colorectal surgery
* Maximize reach and access to target anatomy - enabling surgeons to interact
with tissue at an ideal working angle
* Achieve precise positioning by leveraging the table's wide range of
motion-trend, tilt, slide, height and flex
* Use the intelligent remote control and platform to make table movements and
synchronize the OR team through real-time audio and visual feedback
* Reposition the table during the procedure to enhance anesthesiologists'
care of the patient

"Hospitals and surgeons are seeking integration of systems, tools and
processes in the operating theater," says Myriam Curet, senior vice president
and chief medical officer, Intuitive Surgical. "Our work with Trumpf Medical
in creating Integrated Table Motion is an important advancement on this

Intuitive Surgical and Trumpf Medical spent five years working together to
make the seamless integration of the two systems possible. The system and
table are synchronized in movement - the table's positioning is relayed to
the System and is met with an intuitive adjustment of the system's instrument
arms, boom and endoscope to maintain consistent orientation to the patient's

"Our collaboration demonstrates the true power of partnership," says Kamran
Tahbazian, executive director, global R&D and marketing, Trumpf Medical.
"When innovative, focused companies come together in a true spirit of
cooperation, good things can happen. We are proud of this new, enabling
capability in minimally invasive surgery."

Integrated Table Motion for theda Vinci Xi
Surgical System was CE marked in June 2015 and is now available for sale in
Europe. Intuitive Surgical and Trumpf Medical are seeking further clearances
to market Integrated Table Motion around the world.

About Intuitive Surgical, Inc.

Intuitive Surgical, Inc. (Nasdaq:ISRG), headquartered in Sunnyvale, Calif., is
the global leader in robotic-assisted, minimally invasive surgery. Intuitive
Surgical develops, manufactures and markets the da
® Surgical System.

About the da
Surgical System

There are several models of the da Vinci
Surgical System. The da Vinci
Surgical Systems are designed to help surgeons perform minimally invasive
surgery. da Vinci
Systems are not programmed to perform surgery on their own. Instead, the
procedure is performed entirely by a surgeon who controls the s
ystem. da Vinci
Systems offer surgeons high-definition 3D vision, a magnified view, and
robotic and computer assistance. They use specialized instrumentation,
including a miniaturized surgical camera and wristed instruments (i.e.,
scissors, scalpels and forceps) that are designed to help with precise
dissection and reconstruction deep inside the body.

Indications for Use

The Intuitive Surgical Endoscopic Instrument Control System (da Vinci Xi
Surgical System Model IS4000) is intended to assist in the accurate control of
Intuitive Surgical Endoscopic Instruments during urologic surgical
procedures, general laparoscopic surgical procedures, gynecologic
laparoscopic surgical procedures, general thoracoscopic surgical procedures
and thoracoscopically-assisted cardiotomy procedures. The system can also be
employed with adjunctive mediastinotomy to perform coronary anastomosis
during cardiac revascularization. The system is indicated for adult and
pediatric use. It is intended to be used by trained physicians in an
operating room environment.

The Integrated Table Motion feature of theda Vinci Xi
Surgical System is intended to allow the surgical staff to reposition the
patient by adjusting the table without undocking theda Vinci Xi
Surgical System (Model IS4000) during urologic surgical procedures, general
laparoscopic surgical procedures, and gynecologic surgical procedures. It is
designed to be used with a compatible operating room (OR) table. Theda Vinci
Surgical System with Integrated Table Motion is a class IIb CE marked (CE
0543) medical device under the European Medical Devices Directive (93/42/EEC)
manufactured by Intuitive Surgical, Inc. Theda Vinci Xi
Surgical System with Integrated Table Motion is compatible with the Trumpf
TruSystem 7000dV table - model TS7000dV.
